Just an unfortunate incident no one likes to see in the game

New BLS standards effective December 11 2017 basically restrict the use of spinal board use except for extrication purposes and/or suspected fractured pelvis. There was evidence based research suggesting no benefit to using spinal board immobilization in this case. However cervical immobilization and the application of a cervical collar would be mandatory. Not sure why it was necessary to remove shoulder pads unless player was complaining of an injury in that area that the medics felt it important to assess. While doing this assessment it would be paramount to maintain C Spine control.

I agree, an ABSOLUTE WTF moment from Elgin paramedics.
#1- SAUNTERED into the arena in no hurry AT ALL!
#2- Did not bring in a back board for a suspected head/neck/spinal cord injury.
#3- Took the soft c-spine collar off the player when they sat him up to get him undressed. Then put it back on AFTER they laid him back down. (should have been replaced with a HARD c-spine collar)
#4- STOOD him up and PIVOTED him to sit on the stretcher, then brought his legs up while he REMAINED in a sitting position while on the stretcher.
#5- DID NOT IMMOBILIZE his head while on their stretcher. Took him off the ice and placed a lap belt across his chest before they left the arena.

Complete WTF moment!
Elgin staff and ice helpers were great. They did everything right. They kept the player immobile and didn't allow anyone to touch him until the ambulance arrived.
Then it get's weird. The paramedics sit him up and take his shirt and shoulder pads off! This led me to believe he was fine and I was relieved to see this, hoping that it was only over-cautiousness from the Elgin staff. But then they get the kid on the stretcher and he looks anything but OK.
Only later that day do we find out he has a broken neck. What is up with the paramedics in Elgin? They should have kept him immobile until the hospital. Just my observation.
I hope he has a complete recovery.
Lastly, as for the hit. It was not malicious. It was however a boarding call with an unfortunate result. 1 game would be ok for a suspension but not sure what he ended up with.

Seriously, you're gonna fuss over # of games? Turned last minute or not, kid has a broken neck, but lucky spinal cord not injured. Isn't everyone just thankful not a worse outcome?

Alliance 02 loop is very weak. Will be fewer kids drafted this year compared to other years.

they barely win each game 2-1. have a recruited team from various centres.
run a very aggresive forecheck system that no one has figured out yet.
kinda boring to watch. team has the personality of their coach. (real life of a party eh Walk's)
And all their parents think they are loaded with superstars and are all gonna get drafted.

Obviously you care, to give such a detailed response.

45 kids were drafted last year to the OHL from the Alliance. Will it be more or less this year?

Is 8 less than 45?

Cambridge, Brantford, London, Sun County are good teams. The rest, not so much.

Cambridge -good team
Brantford-works hard but tough to do it for a season
London-ok but lots of individual agendas
SC- ok but some say they need home town reffing to compete
HP- could surprise someone down the road
CK-coming down to earth like an anvil
EMC-cant seem to get hot only lukewarm
LJS- one trick pony beginning to show
Waterloo- question is how did they get worse?
KJR-dumb players take dumb penalties
WJS-next question
Hamilton-brutal

go put out a fire you whack job dad. maybe enroll the boy in football next year.
